Newly designed 90 degree Flag and Cutter frames have been introduced to provide more flexibility in positioning the instrument over the set wall or creating a box with multiple units for better light control. The new design features three square corners, unlike the previous design which only had two. The 48"x48" frames have also been updated by removing the mouse ears and squaring off the corners. Flags are frames with attached mounting pins and covered in a solid cloth material, used to control both natural and artificial light. They can be used to protect the camera lens from flares, control spill light, or block light from certain areas on the set. Sizes up to 24"x36" are known as Flags, while larger or irregular sizes are referred to as Cutters. Floppies are Cutters with an additional layer of material that can be attached with Velcro to double the original size. Bottom Hinge is indicated by the number followed by (B), and Top Hinge with (T). All Matthews Scrims and Flags are bordered with heavy duty, colour-coded webbing for easy identification.
